Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum 20th Anniversary Commemorative Book
“The story belongs to him who tells it best.” – J. Frank Dobie
Approaching their 20 year milestone mark, the founders of the Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum in Cuero, Texas set down the story of their journey together. Writer Terri Schexnayder interviewed founders and early board members to weave together their personal accounts of the ambitious project, which included the preservation of several landmark buildings in Cuero’s downtown.
Startup conversations among the Museum founders focused on the local roots of the Great Cattle Drives of the late 19th century. Only a generation long, the Cattle Drive Era gave us the enduring image of the American cowboy, recognized anywhere in the world. The idea coalesced, and with fundraising leadership from chairman Robert. L. Oliver and the board, Cuero established a regional landmark and tribute to Dewitt County ranching.
Community and business members gave time and attention, trust and donations, to the founding and growth of this polished main street gem. This book is gratefully dedicated to their faith and support over the foundational first 20 years.
