Alamo Architects Brand System
Bookending my first identity assignment for Alamo Architects in 1984, we embarked last year on evolving their brand system to reflect transition to a new tier of leadership. Started as a partnership among 4 friends, the firm has evolved into a robust, multidisciplinary practice with a brand promise that speaks their collective truth: “Together, Everybody Wins.”

Alamo Architects formed in 1984, bucking tradition by not putting partner names on the door. Instead, they patterned their name after main-street shop signs. This workmanlike moniker signaled a collaborative, sleevesrolled-up approach to practice. “Messy vitality,” as coined by icon Robert Venturi, captured the young firm’s ideas on architectural context, so a typographic mash-up made sense for their first logotype.
The 2022 Alamo Architects wordmark system aims to keep what we loved about the original – the quirkiness and fresh optimism – and to move with the times. Evolving the 1984 logotype to a unique, new wordmark system borrows from the old, and heralds the new.
